The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine routinely performs off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, total arterial coronary bypass grafting, and various cardiac valve replacement and valvuloplasty procedures. It also delivers high-complexity major vascular surgeries, including left ventricular assist device implantation, David procedure, Bentall procedure, Wheat procedure, ascending aortic replacement, aortic arch replacement, and thoraco-abdominal aortic replacement, covering a full spectrum of cardiovascular conditions. Minimally invasive thoracoscopic and small-incision approaches are its distinctive features. Under the leadership of Discipline Director Zhang Zonggang, a clinician with long-standing expertise who has completed more than 8, 000 cardiac operations, including complex valve replacement and challenging coronary artery bypass grafting. The department has a professional cardiopulmonary bypass team and standardized postoperative intensive care units. Leveraging advanced life-support and monitoring technologies, including ECMO, IABP, and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), it develops individualized comprehensive treatment strategies for complex and difficult cases, supported by a well-established technical system and stable surgical outcomes.
