The Department of Interventional Radiology at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine organizes its clinical services around three major disease categories: malignant neoplasms, benign tumors, and hemorrhagic conditions.

Employing state-of-the-art image-guided minimally invasive techniques, the department has developed an integrated care model that seamlessly merges high-precision diagnostic imaging with a full spectrum of advanced interventional therapies. This paradigm ensures maximum therapeutic benefit while minimizing procedural trauma, shortening hospital stays, and enhancing overall patient comfort, peri-procedural experience, and functional recovery.

Interventional procedures are broadly classified into vascular and non-vascular interventions. Vascular approaches include transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) and hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) for liver malignancies, arterial embolization (TAE) for benign tumors and hyperplastic lesions, selective arterial embolization for acute or recurrent hemorrhage, endovascular management of portal hypertension secondary to cirrhosis, and balloon angioplasty with or without stenting for vascular or biliary strictures. Non-vascular procedures comprise CT-guided thermal ablation, percutaneous core-needle biopsy and drainage, and CT-guided interstitial brachytherapy via radioactive seed implantation.

The clinical team is composed of one professor-level senior consultant, one consultant, one attending physician, and two resident physicians. All senior staff have undergone formal fellowship training at nationally recognized interventional radiology centers and possess substantial hands-on experience in managing high-acuity, complex interventional cases. The department has established particular proficiency in multimodal interventional oncology and emergency transcatheter hemostasis for life-threatening hemorrhage, underpinned by extensive real-world clinical practice.

Concurrently, the department maintains a vigorous research enterprise, with sustained funding from provincial-level agencies and active collaborative partnerships with numerous oncology centers throughout China. These collaborations facilitate regular multidisciplinary case discussions, joint interventional procedures, and academic conferences, promoting continuous cross-institutional knowledge exchange and alignment with evolving global standards.
