The Department of Joint Surgery and Sports Medicine provides specialized, patient-centered surgical care for disorders of the hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, and wrist. It comprises two core subspecialties—adult joint reconstruction and sports medicine—and records approximately 60,000 outpatient visits and more than 2,000 surgical procedures annually. More than 65% of these procedures are classified as Grade III or IV operations, among the highest complexity categories in China's surgical grading system, and over 55% are performed using minimally invasive techniques.
Our clinical team comprises 15 attendings, nine of whom hold senior professional titles. Several faculty members serve on committees of national and provincial professional societies. The department has been selected for a Zhejiang Provincial Key Clinical Specialty Development Program. Our surgeons lead one project under Zhejiang Province's "Lingyan" Program and two other key research projects at the provincial level, and have secured seven research grants at provincial and ministerial levels.
Conditions We Treat
Our five major areas of clinical expertise are:
Hip and knee osteoarthritis
Osteonecrosis of the femoral head
Rotator cuff tears
Meniscal injuries of the knee
Anterior and posterior cruciate ligament injuries
We also routinely manage developmental dysplasia of the hip, rheumatoid arthritis, complex joint trauma, periprosthetic fractures, and joint deformities.
Specialties and Surgical Procedures
Adult joint reconstruction is distinguished by expertise in minimally invasive primary total joint arthroplasty and complex revision surgery. Our surgeons routinely perform primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty, staged joint-preserving treatment of hip and knee disorders, and corrective osteotomy for joint deformities.
Sports medicine focuses on the treatment of massive rotator cuff tears and multi-ligamentous knee injuries. Procedures include arthroscopic anterior and posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, advanced meniscal repair, patellar stabilization for recurrent patellar dislocation, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, glenoid labral repair or reconstruction, and advanced arthroscopic procedures involving the hip, elbow, and wrist.
