Department of Critical Care Medicine

The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine is a hospital directly affiliated with Zhejiang University. It is a provincial-level comprehensive Grade A tertiary hospital and the youngest A+ rated public hospital in the country. The Department of Critical Care Medicine, as one of the hospital’s key departments, currently has 37 beds. The team consists of 15 physicians (including 1 senior-level, 2 associate senior-level, 9 intermediate-level, and 3 resident physicians), 3 respiratory therapists, and over 90 nurses, forming a young and dynamic team.


The Department of Critical Care Medicine at Zhejiang University Fourth Hospital is equipped with advanced monitoring and life-support systems (including a central monitoring system, advanced ventilators, ECMO, CRRT, IABP, and EIT). Its treatment capabilities for severe traumatic brain injury, cerebrovascular diseases, severe infections, shock, and multiple organ failure have reached a leading domestic level, and the team possesses strong overall capabilities. The department has received extensive media coverage and widespread public recognition for its successful treatment of critically ill and complex patients. Since its establishment, it has not only served as a pillar of strength during major public health emergencies but has also kept pace with technological advancements, played a leading role, and strived for excellence in scientific research, thereby building a lifesaving barrier for critically ill patients in the central Zhejiang region. The department has undertaken one provincial/ministerial-level research project, four departmental-level research projects, one national continuing education project, holds one invention patent and nine utility model patents, and has received the Second Prize in the Provincial CRRT Skills Competition, the Provincial “Workers’ Vanguard” Award, and the Provincial “Women’s Civilization Post” Award.


The Department of Critical Care Medicine focuses on strengthening medical and nursing standards, enhancing treatment capabilities, optimizing service processes, and improving service quality.
