The Department of Pediatrics at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine is a “Joint Children’s Center” jointly established by the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Professor Shu Qiang, Party Secretary of the Children’s Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, serves as the academic leader of the Department of Pediatrics at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital; Professor Du Lizhong, former President of the Children’s Hospital and a nationally renowned neonatologist, serves as Chief Expert; and Chief Physician Li Zhongyue serves as Executive Director of the Department of Pediatrics. The current medical team consists of 23 members, including 1 doctoral advisor, 1 master’s advisor, 3 senior-level professionals, 2 associate senior-level professionals, and 8 attending physicians. Seventy-five percent of the team holds a master’s degree or higher. The department’s current clinical services primarily comprise three components: the General Pediatric Ward, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the Pediatric Outpatient and Emergency Department. The General Pediatric Ward demonstrates a high level of expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric gastrointestinal diseases, nutrition-related conditions, respiratory and allergic disorders, neurological diseases, and childhood growth and development issues; The department provides pediatric enteral and parenteral nutrition support, pain-free pediatric gastrointestinal endoscopy for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, as well as 13C-urea breath tests, pediatric liver biopsies, peripheral intravenous catheter (PICC) placement, pediatric bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, 24-hour electroencephalography (EEG), nocturnal sleep monitoring, and growth hormone stimulation tests. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of neonatal diseases. It provides neonatal resuscitation for asphyxia, invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation support, endotracheal intubation, pulmonary surfactant administration, Insure therapy, nitric oxide (NO) inhalation therapy, neonatal amplitude EEG monitoring, umbilical arteriovenous catheterization, neonatal blood transfusion, hypothermic neuroprotection, and neonatal exchange transfusion, as well as providing continuous neonatal care and kangaroo care. Research focuses on pediatric gastrointestinal diseases and endoscopic diagnosis and treatment, pediatric respiratory diseases, and the diagnosis and treatment of neonatal conditions. The department is responsible for teaching international students and undergraduates from Zhejiang University School of Medicine, as well as interns from multiple medical schools within the province and general practice residents.
