The Clinical Nutrition Department was established in 2015. As a comprehensive clinical department, it integrates clinical care, research, and education. The department is staffed by three physicians and one dietitian, who provide clinical nutrition care to all inpatients and outpatients across the hospital.
Clinical services include specialized nutrition clinics offering nutrition counseling, weight management (including weight loss and weight gain), and growth and development assessment. In July 2024, the department established a multidisciplinary weight management clinic. The department also collaborates in developing enteral and parenteral nutrition support plans and continuously monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of nutritional interventions. In addition, it provides nutrition and health education to the public and conducts clinical research on chronic metabolic and nutritional disorders.
The department’s main areas of clinical practice include medical nutrition therapy for weight management and obesity; nutritional management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension; perioperative nutrition support; disease-specific nutritional interventions for conditions such as cancer, neurological disorders, kidney disease, and gastrointestinal disorders; and nutrition care for special populations, including infants and young children, school-age children, adolescents, pregnant and postpartum women, and older adults.
The department is a member of the Zhejiang Provincial Clinical Nutrition Alliance and serves as the host institution of the Regional Clinical Nutrition Quality Control Center. It has received numerous honors, including designation as a National Weight Management Teaching Unit, inclusion among the “Top 100 Medical Nutrition and Weight Loss Teaching Bases”, and the hospital-level “Outstanding Science Communication Department” award.
