The Department of Medical Ultrasound adheres to its long-standing development plan, which involves using the Ultrasound Department at Zhejiang University Affiliated Hospital as a model and drawing guidance from advanced concepts in the domestic ultrasound field to implement forward-looking planning and structural development. The department strives to fundamentally transform the traditional perception of medical ultrasound as a subordinate, technical, or auxiliary department within the hospital, positioning the Department of Medical Ultrasound at Zhejiang University Fourth Hospital as a clinical platform that integrates diagnosis and treatment; and a clinical platform department that integrates medical care, education, and research.
Through years of sustained effort, the department has evolved into a comprehensive platform integrating medical care, education, and research. In addition to maintaining high standards of clinical quality and expertise, the department has been designated as a National Standardized Training Base for Resident Specialists, a dual-designated Key Medical Discipline of both Jinhua City and Yiwu City, and a master’s degree program at Zhejiang University. It also maintains long-term collaborative relationships with several universities; Furthermore, it serves as a collaborating unit for the Zhejiang Province Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study on Patients with Geriatric Aortic Stenosis, a partner institution of the Zhejiang Province Fetal Cardiac Ultrasound Diagnosis Technology Guidance Center, and a Zhejiang Province Ultrasound Contrast Training Base, ranking among the top in comprehensive strength in the central Zhejiang region. The department boasts a team of experienced and highly skilled experts who are proficient in various ultrasound diagnostic techniques, enabling accurate diagnosis and differential diagnosis of rare tumors and complex diseases.
The department currently has 3 senior-level professionals, 5 associate senior-level professionals, and 13 intermediate-level professionals, forming a well-structured team comprising members of all age groups and professional levels. Thirty staff members hold master’s degrees or higher, and 4 are currently pursuing graduate degrees; Over 90% of the department’s staff hold master’s degrees or higher, with a goal to increase the proportion of PhD holders to over 10% within the next 3–5 years.
The department currently operates 38 independent ultrasound examination rooms; it is equipped with 49 state-of-the-art Doppler ultrasound diagnostic and therapeutic systems from leading international brands; and 8 self-service ultrasound report dispensers. All examination rooms are equipped with dedicated ultrasound examination tables and a PACS system for ultrasound images and reports; Equipped with internationally leading ultrasound diagnostic equipment, the department offers eight subspecialties (abdominal, obstetrics and gynecology, interventional, cardiac, superficial, vascular, pediatric, and musculoskeletal). It is capable of performing nearly all ultrasound diagnostic procedures, including those for the abdomen, superficial organs, cardiovascular system, obstetrics and gynecology, and interventional ultrasound, maintaining a leading technical standard within the province. In addition to routine ultrasound examinations, the department offers several specialized techniques, including ultrasound-guided interventions, musculoskeletal ultrasound, adult cranial ultrasound, and 3D ultrasound.
