The Department of Neurosurgery at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University is a comprehensive unit dedicated to medical care, teaching, and research. It is one of the hospital’s key clinical departments and a key discipline in both Yiwu and Jinhua. After years of rapid development, it has become a leading department with cutting-edge technology in central Zhejiang. The department has established six major subspecialties: functional neurosurgery, cerebrovascular diseases, neuro-oncology, neurospinal surgery, cranial trauma and critical care, and pediatric neurosurgery. It provides comprehensive treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Notably, the department’s microvascular decompression procedures rank among the best in the country, and it was the first in Zhejiang Province to perform contralateral C7 nerve root transposition and anastomosis for upper limb paralysis, as well as extracranial nerve repositioning for post-facial paralysis sequelae. and was the first in Jinhua to utilize deep brain stimulation for Parkinson’s disease. Our clinical capabilities rank among the best in the province. We are a member unit of the China Cranial Nerve Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Collaborative Group, a council member of the China Neuromodulation Alliance, a Zhejiang regional collaborative unit for the China Adult Moyamoya Disease Multicenter Registry Study, a member of the Pan-Yangtze River Delta Stereotactic Neurosurgery Alliance, and a council member of the Zhejiang Stroke Society. The department boasts an outstanding talent pool, with 100% of staff holding master’s degrees or higher. It comprises 15 physicians, including 5 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, 1 doctoral advisor, 2 master’s advisors, and 5 PhDs. All core staff members have undergone training at internationally renowned medical centers. In terms of research, center members have led projects such as the National Key Research and Development Program, the Ministry of Science and Technology’s 863 Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and provincial key natural science projects. In recent years, they have published over 30 international journal articles. The department is also responsible for training doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students at Zhejiang University.
