Neurosurgery

The Department of Neurosurgery is a comprehensive academic discipline that seamlessly integrates clinical practice, postgraduate education, and cutting-edge research. As the leading neurosurgical referral center in central Zhejiang Province, the department comprises five specialized subsections: Functional Neurosurgery, Neuro-Oncology, Cerebrovascular Surgery, Spinal and Spinal Cord Surgery, and Neurotrauma. Our clinical capabilities are among the most advanced in Zhejiang Province, with particular distinction in the management of trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm, pituitary adenomas, intracranial neoplasms, craniocervical junction anomalies, Parkinson's disease, intracranial aneurysms, hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage, and severe traumatic brain injury. The attending physician team consists of 4 senior consultants, 2 associate consultants, 2 faculty members who serve as master supervisors, and 4 physicians holding doctoral degrees. All key personnel have undergone advanced clinical fellowships or observerships at internationally recognized neurosurgical centers.

Features

1. Cranial Nerve Disorders – Our scope encompasses hemifacial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, intermediate nerve neuralgia, spasmodic torticollis, and masseter spasm. We have established one of the leading surgical programs in Zhejiang Province, with nationally recognized expertise that draws referrals from across China. Our preferred approaches are minimally invasive, tailored to individual anatomy, and designed to achieve rapid symptomatic relief with favorable functional recovery and low morbidity.

2. Neuroendoscopic Minimally Invasive Surgery. This modality is employed for the management of sellar and parasellar lesions (including pituitary adenomas, craniopharyngiomas, and meningiomas), as well as hydrocephalus, orbital tumors, intracerebral hemorrhage, chronic subdural hematoma, and optic nerve decompression. The neuroendoscopic technique provides superior visualization of deep-seated pathology, enabling more complete resection while minimizing collateral injury to critical neurovascular structures, thereby reducing surgical trauma and enhancing postoperative outcomes.

3. Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Management. Our multidisciplinary team is equipped with advanced neuromonitoring modalities, including intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring and targeted temperature management (therapeutic hypothermia). With extensive experience in polytrauma and severe TBI, we have developed streamlined protocols for rapid assessment, surgical intervention, and neurocritical care, ensuring coordinated management that is both time-sensitive and evidence-based.

4. Minimally Invasive Surgery for Intracerebral Hemorrhage. As a pioneer in central Zhejiang in neuroendoscopic-assisted and robot-guided hematoma evacuation, we employ a strategic, patient-specific approach. Based on the morphology, location, and timing of the hemorrhage, we integrate various minimally invasive techniques. including endoscopic, stereotactic, and robotic systems, to select the optimal evacuation strategy, aiming for maximal clot removal with minimal parenchymal disruption.

5. Spinal and Spinal Cord Disorders. Our diagnostic and therapeutic services cover spinal cord tumors, spinal stenosis, and other compressive myelopathies. We utilize a hybrid surgical platform that combines the operating microscope, spinal endoscopy, and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM). This integrated approach facilitates precise decompression and tumor excision while safeguarding neural integrity, ultimately improving functional preservation and reducing perioperative complications.
