The Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine Department of the Fourth Affiliated Hospital Zhejiang University School of Medicine is a National Key Clinical Specialty Development Project. It is a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment center integrating medicine, teaching and research, with core specialties in lung cancer, infectious diseases, respiratory intervention and critical illness management. The department is also designated as the Zhejiang-Central Pulmonary Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center of the China Lung Cancer Prevention and Treatment Alliance, the Demonstration Base for Standardized Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment under the Lung Oncology Special Committee of the Chinese Medical Education Association, a National Drug Clinical Trial Institution, an Excellent Unit of the National Standardized Construction Program for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM), a Training Base for Standardized Advanced Fellowship in PCCM Specialists, an Excellent Unit of the National Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Center Construction Program for Interstitial Lung Diseases, and a "Humanistic & Caring Department" awarded by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. It serves as the incoming Chairman Unit of the Respiratory Disease Branch of Zhejiang Medical Association and the Chairman Unit of the Lung Cancer Special Committee of Zhejiang Anti-Cancer Association. The department currently has 9 senior-title physicians, with 110 inpatient beds. It performs approximately 200 interventional procedures and receives around 100,000 outpatient visits annually. It is equipped with first-class facilities including a digital respiratory interventional operating room, CT scanners, and magnetic navigation bronchoscopy systems. Its signature technologies include: precise diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer, efficient treatment of severe pneumonia, and minimally invasive interventional bronchoscopy or lung cancer ablation therapy. ​The department has 3 postgraduate supervisors. It jointly recruits postdoctoral researchers through the Clinical Medicine Post-doctoral Mobile Station of Zhejiang University and the workstation of the International Institute of Medicine, Zhejiang University. Short-term cooperation agreements have been signed with Mass General Brigham in the United States for bilateral exchanges and learning in clinical techniques and practical experience. Over the past three years, the department has obtained more than 10 national-level research projects, including the National Key R&D Program and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Its faculty have published over 100 high-quality papers as first or corresponding authors in journals such as Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy. It has won the First Prize of Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award as the first completer, and established the Zhejiang Key Laboratory for Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer, the Zhejiang-Sweden Joint Laboratory for Tumor Immunology, and the Zhejiang Key Laboratory of Intelligent Design for RNA Drugs.
