The Respiratory Medicine Center/Lung Cancer Center (Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine) at the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University is a comprehensive diagnostic and treatment center integrating medical care, education, and research. It also serves as the Central Zhejiang Lung Nodule Diagnosis and Treatment Center of the China Lung Cancer Prevention and Control Alliance, a Demonstration Base for Standardized Lung Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment of the Lung Cancer Specialized Committee of the China Medical Education Association, a clinical drug trial institution, an outstanding unit in the National Standardized Construction Project for the Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine (PCCM), a standardized training (specialized) base for PCCM specialists, an outstanding unit in the National Standardized Diagnosis and Treatment Center Construction Project for Interstitial Lung Disease, and a “Humanistic and Caring Department” recognized by the Chinese Medical Doctors Association. It also serves as the incoming chair unit for the Respiratory Branch of the Zhejiang Medical Association and the incoming chair unit for the Lung Cancer Professional Committee of the Zhejiang Anti-Cancer Association. The center has one doctoral advisor, two master’s advisors, five chief physicians, and three associate chief physicians. It is equipped with 128 beds, including 120 beds in the respiratory oncology ward, comprehensive respiratory infection ward, and clinical research ward, as well as 8 beds in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU). The center is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including a digital respiratory interventional operating room, CT scanner, and magnetic-navigation bronchoscope. The Center specializes in the treatment of lung cancer, respiratory infections, respiratory interventional procedures, critical respiratory care, and complex respiratory conditions. It is a medical center dedicated to the standardized, professional, and digitized diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory diseases.
In 2022, the Center was selected for the Zhejiang Provincial Key Clinical Specialty Construction Project, and in 2023, it was selected for the National Key Clinical Specialty Construction Project. Over the past three years, the Center has secured funding for one National Key Research and Development Program project, one National Major Science and Technology Special Project, seven National Natural Science Foundation grants, and one National Natural Science Foundation Key Project. one project under Zhejiang Province’s “Vanguard” and “Leading Goose” R&D Initiative, one Zhejiang Provincial Key R&D Project, and three grants from the Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation. Additionally, the center has published over 40 papers as first or corresponding author in internationally renowned journals such as *Advanced Science*, *J Clin Invest*, *Cancer Commun*, *Signal Transduct Target Ther*, and *EJNMMI*. It has also led three national multicenter registered clinical research projects. Center members have contributed to the development of 10 clinical practice guidelines and consensus documents related to lung cancer and interstitial lung disease. In 2023, the center received one First Prize in the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and in 2024, it was approved to establish the Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Precision Diagnosis and Treatment of Lung Cancer.
