The Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine at Zhejiang University Fourth Hospital was established at the hospital’s inception. After a decade of development, it has evolved into a comprehensive clinical laboratory that integrates medical care, education, research, and community service. The Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine covers an area of 2,100 square meters and currently employs over 60 staff members, with more than 50% holding master’s or doctoral degrees. The team includes 1 Chief Technologist, 1 Associate Professor, 7 Deputy Chief Technologists, 20 Senior Technologists, 12 Laboratory Physicians, and 18 Phlebotomists.

The center is divided into seven specialized departments: Hematology, Body Fluids, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, and Emergency Laboratory Services. It is equipped with a range of advanced diagnostic instruments, including the KLK ROBO 7 Intelligent Blood Collection Management System, the Sysmex fully automated hematology analysis line, the STAGO STA R Max fully automated coagulation analysis system, the HITACHI LABOSPECT 008α fully automated biochemistry analyzer, HITACHI H3500 fully automated biochemical analyzer, ABI and Roche real-time quantitative PCR instruments, Roche cobas e-801 chemiluminescence immunoassay analyzer, Abbott Alinity i fully automated immunoassay analyzer, Waters ACQUITY TQ-XS ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry system, BD BACTEC FX400 TOP fully automated bacterial culture system, and Antu Bio Autof ms1000 fully automated microbial mass spectrometry detection system, among 43 other large-scale testing devices. Additionally, a laboratory information management system has been established that integrates with the hospital’s modern information platform. The center offers over 600 clinical laboratory tests, including complete blood count, urinalysis, stool analysis, liver function tests, renal function tests, blood glucose, lipid profile, glycated hemoglobin, coagulation function, preoperative panel, tumor markers, bacterial and fungal culture and identification, and pathogen nucleic acid detection, processing more than 3 million specimens annually.

Having achieved ISO 15189 laboratory accreditation in 2017, the center boasts a comprehensive quality management system, a well-balanced staff structure, state-of-the-art equipment, and a strong technical team. We consistently uphold the principle of “Seeking Truth and Tracing Origins, Quality First,” and are committed to implementing the quality policy of “Objectivity and Impartiality, Accuracy and Timeliness, Quality Service, and Continuous Improvement.” We practice the “One-Stop Service” philosophy to meet the needs of clinical departments and patients. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center for Laboratory Medicine demonstrated outstanding performance and was honored as an “Advanced Collective in the Fight Against COVID-19 in Zhejiang Province.” The Department of Laboratory Medicine’s Party Branch received honors including “Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Zhejiang University” and “Vanguard Party Branch of the Zhejiang Provincial Health System.” This is a dynamic and vibrant team.
