The Department of Thoracic Surgery at Zhejiang University Fourth Hospital is an accredited center for minimally invasive thoracic oncology and esophageal cancer in central Zhejiang. As one of the hospital’s key departments, it ranks among the top in the province in terms of overall strength, and its diagnostic and treatment capabilities are at the forefront of the nation. The department’s scope of practice primarily includes the standardized diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant thoracic tumors (including those of the lung, esophagus, and mediastinum) as well as other common thoracic conditions (such as pneumothorax, hyperhidrosis, chest trauma, chest wall masses, hiatal hernias, and pediatric chest wall deformities). The department performs nearly 2,000 surgeries annually, adhering to the core principles of “minimally invasive, precise, personalized, and rapid recovery.” The department routinely performs minimally invasive treatments for lung and mediastinal tumors via single-port thoracoscopy, as well as minimally invasive thoracoscopic procedures assisted by the Da Vinci robotic system, including total thoracoscopic esophagectomy. It is equipped with extracorporeal circulation capabilities and a specialized intensive care team to provide comprehensive support for the diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients.
